NFIB Says Take Down The Scaffold Law!

The National Federation of Independent Businesses has issued a press release in support of reforming the Scaffold Law. Says Mike Durant, Director of the New York State Chapter,

“Contractors, builders and other small businesses have to pay all of the damages even when the injured workers are found to have been negligent,”

said NFIB State Director Mike Durant. “In other words, an employee can ignore all of the safety procedures required by his boss and become injured as a result. Then, he can sue his boss and potentially win millions of dollars. That’s not just unfair, it’s crazy.”

Indeed, New York is the only state that holds employers to such a draconian liability standard. The proposed reform simply gives small businesses the chance to defend themselves in court.

It's time to bring common sense back to New York!
